Evaluation & impact reports

We believe that to understand change, embedded evaluation and ongoing reflective discussions are vital. In doing so, meaningful data can be produced that helps to articulate emerging outcomes and ownership of change. Within our frameworks, we place value in considering how best to employ evaluation methods that are non-extractive and delivered in modes that respond to the given stakeholders. We advocate for a shift away from evaluating in a hierarchical framework of us evaluating others; instead inviting communities to evaluate with us.

The Back Row Method

  • Human-Centred Data Collection: We prioritise the dignity of participants, ensuring they are treated as valued contributors rather than mere “data points” in a report.

  • Narrative-Driven Evidence: We use a mixed-methods approach, blending rigorous quantitative data with rich, qualitative storytelling to provide a three-dimensional view of project impact.

  • Collaborative Reporting: Our evaluation outcomes are co-created with your team, ensuring that final reports are not just academic exercises, but practical tools for future growth and funding

Our FAQs

Every great project begins with a conversation: here are the answers to the questions we are asked most often about our process and impact.

Traditional evaluation often relies solely on surveys and statistics. While we value these metrics, our creative approach uses participatory methods, such as storytelling or arts-based interventions, to capture the nuanced, emotional impact of a project. This provides a much deeper understanding of how your work has truly affected your audience.

Yes. We specialise in translating complex community experiences into clear, evidence-based reports. We align our findings with the specific social value requirements and impact frameworks used by UK cultural funders, helping you demonstrate exactly how your project meets its objectives.

Ideally, we should be involved at the planning stage. Embedding an evaluation framework from the start allows us to capture "baseline" data and ensure that documentation is a seamless part of the project delivery, rather than an afterthought. However, we can also provide retrospective evaluations to help you reflect on completed work.
